A message from our past and
present Cub masters
Hello, my name
is Eric Aasen and I am serving as the new Cub Master for Pack 618,
having replaced Ciro Milazzo who has moved on to the Boy
Scouts. My son Kirby joined scouts last year and I got involved as
a Den leader for the Wolf Scouts with a friend and fellow parent
Paul Horvat. Having spent over twenty years as a professional
firefighter in Santa Cruz, I can't tell you enough how Scout
activities teach young boys valuable lessons as they grow in to
responsible and respectful adults. Scouts are expected to love
God, love their country, and always do their best. They learn how
to interact with other boys and understand the importance of
community.
Cub Scouts are
just the beginning of teaching boys many important concepts that
will aide them as they grow older. This journey continues up
through the rank of Eagle Scout which can be completed around the
age of 18. Many Scouts go on to accelerate not only in school, but
in the work force because of their previous scout experience. This
is only my second year in Scouts, and this is my second year as a
leader. Although I was a little nervous at first, I have found
great support in becoming a Scout leader from the Pack. As a
leader, I quickly realized that Scouts cannot exist without
parental involvement in leadership roles. I know a lot of us are
busy, but there is no greater joy that being a leader to not only
your child, but to someone else's. Please consider enrolling your
son in Scouts, and we ask that you strongly consider taking a
leadership role in Scouts because the development of many
boys depends on you.

-------------------- I came because the hours
worked, but I stayed because the program is great! Great for the Cubs, great
for the leaders, and great for the whole family! The BSA provides a series of
activities and advancements tailored to each grade, from 1st to 5th.
The boys work together, learning to appreciate, respect and care for
themselves, their families, their community, environment and world,
always with an emphasis on fun to keep them coming back each week
for more. The local BSA District and Council are there every step of
the way, with high quality training available, and knowledgeable
volunteers to help with any questions the Pack leaders can think up. The investment is relatively
small - an hour or two a week and some creative energy - but the
payback is a huge for the leaders, watching and helping along the
way as a group of boys transforms from energetic and creative 1st
grade Tiger Cubs bouncing off the walls, into energetic and creative
5th Grade Webelo Scouts leading the younger Cubs and getting ready
for the Boy Scouts and beyond. My youngest son moved on to Boy
Scouts this year, and I moved with him to be an Assistant
Scoutmaster at Troop 618, but I know that the Cub Pack is in good
hands with John and Eric and Paul and Manny and Linda up front, and
many other committed parents behind the scenes making it go. Maybe
you will decide to join the fun and be an adult leader for the Cub
Pack too, but either way I hope that you and your son will decide to
join the Pack 618 Cub Scout Family! --Ciro Milazzo |
